I grew up in a time when streaming platforms didn’t exist and subtitles were only used by deaf and hard of hearing people. As a child, I was extremely happy when I found the occasional subtitled movie or tv series in English and I would’ve never imagined, back then, that subtitles were going to become such a widespread tool. Needless to say I’m very happy that they've become so popular. A subtitled movie doesn’t only help deaf people and language students, it can convey the actors’ performances the way they were conceived, just like any documentary conveys the interviewees’ frame of mind through the tone of their voices, even when you can’t understand what they are saying. When properly done, subtitles preserve the original messages without distracting too much from the scene, and deaf and foreign people will enjoy the movie the way it was thought to be in its original version.
I’m proud to do this job, because it gave me the chance to work on extraordinary movies and documentaries and help them meet the world and show it their unique beauty. Nowadays, subtitles are the perfect, low-cost solution to send your project abroad in many different situations, such as festivals, streaming platforms, and competitions, without losing faithfulness to the original version.
I can translate and subtitle your video in English and in Italian, following the style guides from any streaming platform, competition or festival, within the usually tight deadlines of the movie industry. And if you are working on a multilingual project, then you are in the right place, since I've already worked as a team manager for a group of translators working on a multilingual documentary, and we did a pretty awesome job.
My way of working is transparent: first of all, I need to watch the video, in order to identify its main topics and also its target, that is the people you want to reach and, if need be, its specific glossary. We can even talk about it together, if you want. Provided that anything you send me will be considered to be strictly confidential and will not be shared or divulged to others, after examining the material, I can give you an estimate of the time and cost required. Don’t worry if the final cut is not ready yet: this is a very common situation I’ve already dealt with many times; coordinating our efforts, we can do an awesome job. You can check in with me whenever you need to, about any doubt or necessity you may have about my work. Lastly, on the day of the delivery, you will receive the subtitles in the format you need, synchronized with the video and ready to be used.
